Cyber-attack: Europol says it was unprecedented in scale
A cyber attack on organisations worldwide, including the NHS, has been described as “unprecedented” by Europe’s police agency, Europol, which warned that a “complex international investigation” would be necessary to identify those responsible. The attack, which used ransomware to encrypt data on at least 75,000 computers in 99 countries, was worst in Europe and Russia. The software behind the attack, WannaCry, demanded payments for access to be restored.
