Cybersecurity firm Zscaler ThreatLabz reports a 400% year-on-year rise in malware attacks on Internet of Things (IoT) devices, notably in the manufacturing sector which had 54.5% of all recorded attacks. Attackers have particularly targeted older vulnerabilities. Such attacks, which also disrupt Operational Technology processes, have risen rapidly as IoT implementation increases across industry, but especially in manufacturing which sees an average of 6,000 IoT malware attacks weekly. The report also noted a near 1000% rise in attacks on education establishments.
