Cybersecurity threatscape: Q3 2023
In Q3 2023, total cyber incidents saw a minor drop of 2% compared to the previous quarter. Cybercriminals frequently targeted vulnerabilities in commonly used IT solutions, and utilized malware in 45% of attacks. Cyber attacks were primarily orchestrated through social engineering with phishing websites, email, social media scams and instant messaging hoaxes being common methods. Approximately 56% of organizations experienced a data breach due to these attacks. Cybercriminals also targeted data transfer systems, used sophisticated social engineering techniques, and evolved malware attacks geographically and technically. Extortion gangs also refined their tactics, including increasing customer impact and “double posting” ransom demands for the same attack.
