DarkGate malware spreads through compromised Skype accounts

DarkGate malware attacks have been spotted from July to September, primarily using compromised Skype accounts. Cybersecurity firm Trend Micro reported that the malware also targeted Microsoft Teams users via harmful VBScript. DarkGate’s threats range from ransomware to cryptomining, with its use growing notably since the dismantling of the Qakbot botnet due to international cooperative efforts. The malware is available as a service within cyberspace, with subscriptions selling for up to $100,000 a year.
