Warning: Objects in driverless car sensors may be closer than they appear

Researchers at Duke University have discovered a vulnerability in autonomous vehicle sensors, in which a laser attack can be employed to fool the sensors into believing objects are closer or further away than actual. This can cause the systems to make dangerous decisions. The researchers suggest that adding optical 3D capabilities or sharing data with neighbouring vehicles could secure these systems against attacks.
