Real-world study shows the potential of gait authentication to enhance smartphone security

A study by the University of Plymouth has suggested that gait recognition, a person’s unique way of walking, could be used to protect personal data of smartphone users. The study found that the use of motion sensors to recognise an individual’s gait was around 85% accurate. The researchers suggested it could become a new method for user authentication, providing a stronger awareness of a user’s identity.
