New malware attacks have seen a huge rise in recent months

BlackBerry reported a 70% surge in new malware from June to August last year. The finance and healthcare industries were the most targeted as cybercriminals aimed to disrupt essential services and gain access to valuable data. The firm thwarted more than 3.3 million attacks, finding the highest number of unique malware samples in the US, followed by Japan, South Korea, India and Canada. Ransomware groups accounted for the majority of the threat actors.
