New FjordPhantom Android Malware Targets Banking Apps in Southeast Asia
Cybersecurity researchers have identified a new Android malware, FjordPhantom, targeting users in Southeast Asia. The malware spreads through messaging services, tricking users into downloading a disguised banking app. The app uses virtualization to run malicious code subtly, breaking Android’s sandbox features, enabling the malware to access data without root access. The fraudulent app loads the bank’s legitimate app in a virtual container, altering key APIs to steal sensitive information.
