Hackers use new Agent Raccoon malware to backdoor US targets
Agent Raccoon, a new malware, is being utilized in cyberattacks against organizations in the US, the Middle East, and Africa, in sectors including government, education, retail, and non-profits. Believed to be linked with nation-state threat actors, its purpose appears to be espionage. The malware mimics a Google or Microsoft update, using a covert communications channel, and can remotely execute commands and access infected systems. The attackers are also using other tools to steal credentials and emails.
