Turtle macOS ransomware discovery is mostly harmless

A new “Turtle” ransomware targeted at macOS systems presents a low risk in its current state, with its encryption key being easily detected. The malware was initially developed for Windows before being adapted for MacOS, with evidence suggesting a higher than usual flaring rate among security vendors. To be infected, users would have to significantly bypass or ignore macOS Gatekeeper security measures. Tech expert Patrick Wardle suggests vigilant online behaviour and attention to all macOS security prompts are effective countermeasures.
