SpyLoan Android malware on Google Play downloaded 12 million times
Over 12 million users have downloaded malicious loan apps, generically known as SpyLoan, from Google Play and third-party stores this year. The apps masquerade as legitimate financial services and trick victims into accepting high-interest payments. The SpyLoans then steal and exploit personal data. Cybersecurity company ESET has uncovered 18 such apps so far, with Google subsequently removing 17 of them.
