‘No excuse’: NHS health board reprimanded after patient data shared on WhatsApp over 500 times | UK News

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has reprimanded NHS Lanarkshire for data breaches after staff shared patients’ personal data on WhatsApp over 500 times between April 2020 and 2022. The health board lacked clear guidelines for use of the messaging app, leading to a non-staff member being added by mistake. The ICO has consequently issued several recommendations to prevent future breaches.
