University of Manchester Hack – NHS patient Data Exposed

The University of Manchester was hit by a ransomware attack, compromising the health data of 1.1 million NHS patients from 200 hospitals. Ransomware is a malware that locks devices and prevents access to files. The breached data included NHS numbers and part of patients’ postcodes. The attack was discovered on June 5, confirmed on June 23 and an unrelated significant hacking incident occurred on August 5. Investigations are ongoing, with the university working with various authorities.
