West Lothian cancer patient slams NHS Lothian for ‘inappropriate’ data breach

Martin Laing, a cancer patient from West Lothian, has criticised NHS Lothian after his confidential medical records were ‘inappropriately’ accessed by a staff member. Around 90 people are believed to have been affected by this major data breach. While the staff member has reportedly been sacked and the police are investigating, Mr Laing expressed frustration at being “kept in the dark” about the incident. This breach follows a similar incident involving the same health board in early 2021.
