Hundreds of patient data breaches are left unpunished, reveals The BMJ

Numerous organizations, including drug companies, NHS commissioners, and universities have violated patient data sharing agreements for the past seven years, with high risk breaches from GlaxoSmithKline and Imperial College London. These infractions have not resulted in access to NHS Digital’s data being restricted. Critics are calling for consequences to breaches, while questions arise concerning the government’s plan to dismantle NHS Digital and give its responsibilities to NHS England.
