NHS data breach caused details of 150,000 patients to be shared

The NHS has deemed a coding error at IT provider TPP responsible for a data breach that exposed the details of 150,000 patients. The bug in the firm’s SystmOne software meant that patients who opted out of having their information shared for non-care uses did not have their objections logged by NHS Digital. The health service said it has written to all affected patients and TPP GP practices, while the Information Commissioner’s Office is investigating the incident.
