Cracked applications recently found on unauthorized websites contained a macOS trojan-proxy, according to Kaspersky researchers. These apps, available as .PKG installers rather than disk images, can launch scripts and are used by cybercriminals to create a proxy server network, perform illicit activities, and anonymize their actions. Experts noted that this highlights an increasing trend in cyber threats targeting macOS systems, and suggested users practice caution when downloading installers from the web.
