FTC warns QR codes can steal money and install malware
Scammers are abusing QR codes by creating fraudulent ones that lead users to malicious websites, steal data, and process fraudulent transactions. Although QR codes have become commonplace in our daily lives, their security is far from guaranteed. To avoid falling for scams, the US Federal Trade Commission advises checking QR codes for signs of tampering, being wary of QR codes in emails, and confirming that a QR code’s website has a legitimate URL.
