Black and Hispanic patients experiencing insults in healthcare settings
A new KFF survey reveals that many US adults from various ethnic backgrounds feel they need to modify their behavior and appearance to avoid discrimination during healthcare visits. Among healthcare consumers in the past three years, 60% of Black adults, 51% of Hispanic adults, 52% of American Indian and Alaska Native adults, and 42% of Asian adults reported preparing for potential discrimination. Comparatively, only a third of White adults reported the same. Shared racial or ethnic backgrounds between patients and providers generally result in better interactions.
