Google is under pressure to counter a rise in malicious advertising (malvertising) in the year ahead, following a major surge of the activity seen in 2021. Criminals have used search ads to disseminate malware by posing as familiar software, such as video conferencing tool Zoom. The scale of the issue means that using an ad blocker has become necessary for safe browsing, according to experts.
