At least 180 victims lost $2.6m in December to social media job offer scams

In Singapore, 180 people lost approximately $2.6 million to scammers who posted fake job offers in December 2023. The victims were added to chat groups on platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram, and were later deceived into performing tasks on social media sites and transferring large sums of money with the promise of substantial returns. Many only realised they had been scammed when their website account showed a negative balance.
