At least 180 victims lost $2.6m in December to social media job offer scams

In December 2023, around 180 individuals were tricked into losing approximately $2.6 million by fraudsters who offered them fake jobs involving social media tasks. The victims were persuaded to deposit large sums into bogus accounts under the promise of substantial returns. The con was realised when the victims couldn’t withdraw their earnings or their accounts showed negative balances.
