Thousands of patients hit by NHS data breaches
The UK National Health Service (NHS) has been found to have mishandled thousands of patients’ data, including an instance of releasing a person’s HIV status to a third party. The Information Commissioner’s Office disclosed that there had been over 3,500 data breaches across the health sector in the last two years, likely lower than the actual figure. Critics argue that these breaches interrupt public trust in the system’s capacity to safeguard patient data responsibly.
