Public sector data is increasingly targeted by cybercriminals, with UK authorities facing 10,000 cyberattacks daily and costs exceeding £10 million over the past five years. Ensuring better data protection requires new strategies, including ‘zero-trust’, whereby all system elements are presumed threats until proven otherwise. Reducing security alert fatigue, enhancing cyber resilience by only backing up key data, and employee empowerment are also crucial.
