NHS workers make up a third of annual allowance breaches

Over a third of those exceeding their annual pension allowances in 2019/20 were part of the NHS pension scheme, according to Quilter, citing information from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) and the NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA). The total amount exceeded rose to £949mn ($1.26bn) from £819mn. Quilter’s NHS pension specialist adviser, Graham Crossley, pointed to the figures as highlighting the need for change in order not to risk doctors leaving the NHS.
