The title “34 Lockbit Servers Dismantled by Law Enforcement in ‘Cronos'”
Blimey, have you heard the latest on that cheeky bunch, LockBit? Law enforcement has swooped in and seized control of their data leaking site and entire infrastructure. The audacity, right? You’d barely believe it! I had a sneak peek at their website today and everything’s been done and dusted, replaced with snaggle of information on their seizure and all the exciting law enforcement adventures they’ve had.
Now, Europol — bless their cotton socks — has given us a bit more of a complete picture. It appears the operation’s been unfolding over the past few months, much like a slow-burning drama series on BBC One. It’s been a proper job too, with LockBit’s prime platform and all their other key bits and pieces compromised. They really knocked the stuffing out of them and took down a whopping 34 servers across the globe — from the Netherlands, Germany and Finland, all the way to France, Switzerland, Australia, the States, and of course our dear old Blighty.
But that’s not all, my friends. They’ve also nabbed a pair of the LockBit chaps in Poland and Ukraine. The French judicial authorities requested the arrest, but the gavel didn’t stop there. There have been three ‘bonafide’ international arrest warrants and a solid five indictments issued by both the French and our brothers across the pond, the Yanks.
And to everyone out there thinking, “Well, what about all the money?” — don’t you worry! The authorities have got that covered too. They’ve iced more than 200 cryptocurrency accounts that were linked to these dollars and cents digital desperados. Their whole scheme? It’s been disrupted from top to tail, including the dodgy financial incentives that drive these no good ransomware attacks.
If you’re curious, it’s the clever clogs at the National Crime Agency here in the UK who’ve taken the reins. They’re now orchestrating all the tech magic that allows everything LockBit typically gets up to. They’ve also taken control of their dark web leaking site, which trust me, considering the amount of sensitive data that’s been pinched in ransomware attacks, it’s a jolly good thing they have.
And if the worst has happened and you’ve fallen prey to these digital ne’er-do-wells, there’s some fab news. A free key is available to unlock your encrypted data; they’re calling it ‘No More Ransom’. So, chin up, there’s light at the end of the tunnel.
If you want to know all the ins and out of the takedown, Europol’s your man. Just remember, in this age of ours, it’s not just the pen that mightier than the sword. It’s all done with digits, security and cyber savvy! All part of the modern world, isn’t it, just?
