Lessons from a ransomware attack: How one healthcare CIO helped her company recover

OrthoVirginia, a healthcare company, was attacked by Ryuk ransomware in February 2021. The attack led to complete shutdown of their systems, taking around 18 months for full restoration. Knowledge learnt from the attack has led to changes in the company’s approach, including transitioning to the cloud. Despite ransom demands, no payment was made. The company has also focused on ensuring accurate record-keeping and communication with stakeholders, media, and law enforcement.
