Hospital staff sacked for prying on patients’ medical records in Suffolk and Colchester hospitals

Ipswich Hospital in Suffolk reported nine serious data protection breaches to the UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) over the past three years, including staff members obtaining and looking at patient records unlawfully. The hospital reported 72 breaches in 2015/16 and 40 in 2016/17. The report was accompanied by warnings that many incidents had been dealt with internally and not fully reported.
