England’s test and trace coronavirus programme has broken data protection laws, due to a lack of an impact assessment on privacy, according to privacy campaigners and data protection lawyers. The Open Rights Group (ORG) has argued that the programme has therefore been unlawful from the beginning. The government’s handling of the test and trace data has been described as reckless by Jim Killock, the executive director of the ORG.
