Salisbury District Hospital breached mixed-sex ward rule hundreds of times

NHS data shows that from October to March, there were 510 breaches of a rule prohibiting mixed-sex accommodation at the Trust. The rules have been violated across trusts, driven by strains experienced during the Covid-19 outbreak. However, violating these rules is seen by the Patients Association as undermining patient dignity. The number of breaches has grown since pre-pandemic times. The Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust argued that infection prevention meant mixed-sex wards were sometimes necessary.
