Heat alert system launched to warn Brits when scorching temperatures pose a risk to life

The UK will introduce a new Heat Health Alerting system to warn residents about dangerous high temperatures. Launched by the UK Health Security Agency and the Met Office, the colour-coded system operates year-round with alerts especially significant from June to September. Green, yellow, amber and red signals correspond with weather warnings with red indicating a ‘significant risk to life’. The alerts which will also be sent to NHS England, the government, and healthcare professionals, aim to reduce heat-related illnesses and deaths.
