Conversational AI improves ‘fourth trimester’ maternal care at Penn Medicine
The University of Pennsylvania Medicine (Penn Medicine) has developed a artificial intelligence-powered chatbot that has enabled it to automate routines for postnatal care. The mobile, AI-enabled, two-way text messaging system allows patients to ask questions about standard postnatal care and has cut the number of routine inquiries medics need to address, meaning they can focus on more serious issues. Trials of the chatbot, called Penny, have shown a 92% satisfaction rate among patients, with over 70% of patient questions accurately answered.
