Cyberthreats, Data Breaches in the Healthcare Sector Are Rising

Cyber threats in the healthcare sector, including ransomware and hacking, have risen drastically in recent years. The Office for Civil Rights (OCR) suggests implementing cybersecurity precautions including regular risk assessments, routine system audits, robust authentication measures and staff training among others. US Senator Bill Cassidy has called for federal data privacy laws to be updated, whilst preserving existing HIPAA regulations. Recommendations also include protecting health data not currently covered by HIPAA and navigating data that merges health and non-health information.
