Cyberattack on Change Healthcare leads to scammers targeting patients in Nebraska

Parker Bytes April 25, 2024

Blimey! Mate, you wouldn’t believe what’s been happening over here. It’s a right palaver. Some cheeky scammers have had a go at a bunch of Nebraska-based patients!

These n’er-do-wells have been reaching out, claiming to be representatives from all the local hospitals around. Of course, they’re not. Not in the slightest. It’s all sham, you see. Trying to con innocent folks out of their hard-earned dosh.

Here’s how it happened. In a recent cyberattack on Change Healthcare, a company that provides health information technology, prime opportunity arose for these scammers to get their sneaky hands on patients’ info. Now they are reaching out to these patients pretending to be from the hospitals. These rogues don’t half have some nerve, do they?

What’s worse – now they’re spinning a yarn, supposedly telling patients that they’re in line for a full refund, no less! But here’s the catch: they have to hand over their credit card details first. Barking mad, if you ask me, but there you have it.

If you ever find yourself on the receiving end of a call like this, don’t be fooled! No hospital in good standing is going to ask you for your credit card details over the phone, let alone promise you a refund without any proper paperwork involved.

But here’s an even more significant question: what’s been done about this cyber attack? I mean, we can’t have all this affecting the healthcare of those in Nebraska and surrounding areas, can we?

Well, Bryan Health in the state has been right on it! They’ve been getting multiple reports of these shenanigans and quickly turned their attention to the matter.

Now it appears Bryan Health has been quite successful in putting up the barricades so far, but it’s always good practice to keep an eye on these things and never rest on one’s laurels. After all, there’s always a chance that some crafty scammer might try to find a new way to hoodwink unsuspecting victims.

So there it is, folks. A cautionary tale if there ever was one! And a word to the wise – always stay one step ahead of these con artists. Be savvy, keep your personal data to yourself and never fall for suspicious claims, no matter how tempting they might sound.

Not a very happy topic to discuss, I know, but it’s crucial. These cyber ruffians are always on the prowl, so it’s paramount you stay safe and remain vigilant. Cheers to cybersecurity and safeguarding healthcare, my friends! I’m off for a cuppa.
