EU Health Sector Cyber Study Confirms Ransomware is the Leading Threat
EU healthcare facilities have remained a preferred target for cyber attacks in the period between 2021 and 2023, with 46% of incidents focusing on healthcare data, reveals a study by the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA). The primary motivation (83%) was financial as healthcare data is considered highly valuable. A rise was also seen in ideologically driven cyber attacks (10%). Ransomware attacks, accounting for 53% of all incidents, came out as the most significant threat. A worrying 27% of healthcare organizations had no dedicated ransomware defense, the study found.
