May 2023 Healthcare Data Breach Report

May 2023 was an especially bad month for healthcare data breaches, with 75 instances reported to the HHS Office for Civil Rights. This marked a 44% monthly increase, soaring past the 12-month average of 58 breaches. The largest of these involved Managed Care of North America, PharMerica Corporation, and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, revealing a combined total of over 17 million records. In total for the year to date, more healthcare records were breached than in all of 2020.
