April 2023 Healthcare Data Breach Report

In April 2023, there was a 17.5% fall in HIPAA compliance breaches, with a significant decrease in breached records reported at 4,425,891 – 30.7% less than the previous month. Healthcare providers were hit the hardest, with the largest breach affecting 3,037,303 individuals. A large number of breaches were due to ransomware attacks, with the most significant one recorded by healthcare associate NationsBenefits Holdings and several others by Brightline Inc., while phishing and unauthorised disclosures were also highlighted as issues.
