Healthcare data breaches increased by 196% in 2019, with 510 reported breaches of 500 or more records, according to US Department of Health and Human Services data. In total, 37.47% more records were breached in 2019 than in 2018, affecting 12.55% of the US population. The largest breach by a business was reported by Optum360, with 11.5 million individual records affected.
