Hospital patients forced into mixed-sex wards for treatment trebles since pandemic
Mixed-sex wards in UK hospitals have doubled since the start of the pandemic, with almost 5,000 instances of men and women sharing sleeping areas reported in January. This is due to hospitals being under immense pressure and full capacity. The practise is viewed as an affront to patients’ dignity, and could have been avoided if more single-room hospitals had been built.
