Thousands hit in uni cyber breach

A cybersecurity breach at Western Sydney University has affected 7,500 people. The unauthorized access to the university’s IT network was identified in January 2024, with the earliest known intrusion taking place in May 2023 via Microsoft Office 365. Although there have been no threats to private information, investigations are ongoing. Separately, MYOB’s research concluded that 61% of medium-sized businesses have experienced a cyber incident, rising to 80% within finance and insurance sectors.
