Persistent data breaches are failing people with HIV

UK Information Commissioner John Edwards has criticised the data protection standards at HIV health services following repeated breaches that led to patients being identifiable. Edwards has called for urgent improvements claiming the breaches decreased trust in the services and exposed patients to stigma and prejudice. His statement came after the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) fined the Central Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) of London £7,500 for a data breach.
