Newly discovered ransomware uses BitLocker to encrypt victim data
ShrinkLocker, a new type of ransomware, uses the BitLocker feature in Windows to encrypt victim data. Previously spotted in Mexico, Indonesia, and Jordan, the malware shrinks non-boot partitions and uses them for unauthorized data encryption. This isn’t the first time BitLocker has been exploited by ransomware, with related attacks reported in 2022. The malware also uses a complex encryption key, making it almost impossible for victims to decrypt their data without the attacker’s help.
