First American Financial Corp. has revealed that a data breach discovered in December last year had affected 44,000 individuals. The hack forced the company’s systems offline for a week, disrupting business and giving competitors a chance to pick up its clients. The title insurer and real estate services provider, which had $46.7 million in net income in Q1 2020, hasn’t defined the data leak as a cyberattack, but suspects personal information may have been accessed without permission.
