Security industry has ransomware-as-a-service model wrong, says expert

Ransomware-as-a-Service (RaaS) operates like a gig economy, using independent contractors and online applications, said Martin Zugec, technical solution director at BitDefender, at Infosecurity Europe. RaaS uses operators and administrators to code and build infrastructure, while affiliates deploy the ransomware. Zugec refuted claims that RaaS enables less technically skilled attackers to participate in cybercrime, saying it was about “substituting generalists with specialists.”
