NHS alert over shortage of type-O blood following hospital cyberattack

The NHS has called for urgent donations of type-O blood, which can be given to anyone, after cyberattacks hit various London hospitals, including King’s, St Thomas’ and Evelina Children’s. More than 200 operations, including ones due in 24 hours, have needed to be cancelled. A nationwide shortage of type-O blood stocks is frustrating transfusions as attacks hamper the ability to quickly check patients’ blood types, causing cancellations and reductions of non-surgical appointments and even cancer diagnoses.
