NHS Ransomware Attack Leads Cancellations of 800+ Operations

Pathology lab Synnovis was targeted by a ransomware cyberattack that significantly reduced blood test processing for south-east London NHS organisations, causing massive disruption to services. NHS England London declared a regional incident and coordinated efforts to react, including rerouting blood tests and increasing the number of tests reported daily. However, the clinical impact has been severe, leading to over 800 rescheduled operations and 700 outpatient appointments across two trusts. Measures are underway for Synnovis’s recovery and an appeal has been made for O-type blood donations.
