NHS warns 150,000 patients of ‘extremely serious’ blackmail risk from criminals as record leaked online

The NHS has revealed that patient health records from NHS Dumfries and Galloway are likely to have been stolen in a cyber attack leaving nearly 150,000 patients open to blackmail attempts. The cyber attack occurred in February, however the data was published in March on the dark web after the hackers’ ransom demands were rejected. Leaflets will be sent to all patients in the region to advise them on the situation.
