Medway Maritime Hospital has most mixed-sex accommodation breaches in Kent in 2024

Medway Maritime Hospital has violated the prohibition on mixed-sex wards almost 1,000 times this year, despite a ban in 2010. East Kent Hospitals also recorded 703 breaches over the same period. These infringements can significantly distress vulnerable patients and hinder recovery. Both trusts have taken measures to reduce these breaches, with Medway implementing a new bed-management system and East Kent recording fewer breaches in May.
