NHS patients’ data still exposed in ‘honeypot for hackers’ after ‘failing to act’ on cyber attack warnings
The NHS and the University of Manchester allegedly received warnings about a vulnerable database several months before it was hacked, leading to the data of over a million patients becoming compromised. The database, which the Independent newspaper claimed was recently the target of cybercriminals, was also said to be lacking important security features, such as two-factor authentication. Despite these concerns, it has been alleged that the NHS is planning to utilise the database again, potentially exposing millions more patient records.
