Quarter of all American healthcare records have been breached

Around 25% of Americans have had their medical records leaked, with over 79.6 million people affected by data breaches, mainly due to healthcare provider systems being hacked, according to a study by cybersecurity firm Incogni. It also revealed a rise in ransomware attacks targeting the healthcare sector since 2020. The largest breach recorded was at 20/20 Eye Care Network in 2021, exposing the data of about 3.3 million Americans.
